“If the move in question is clearly frivolous, this seems impossible to justify.”

My response on paper: Made me squirm in my seat wanting to justify.

My personal view on life is that we are all given one chance at it and we should live it to, how we perceive, the fullest. If you want to be an artist, one should have the ability to do so, even if they are making a frivolous movie. It doesn’t always have to be a movie though; it could be any aspect of culture that someone made that could invoke joy in others. If all the modern world should be is a work organization uplifting funds for poorer nations and doing charity work, everyone would be miserable. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t help poorer nations, or that we should donate to the poor or volunteer, I just think someone shouldn’t be attacked for pursuing their passion.

“This is often what EA comes down to: working hard to earn money and then giving as much of it as you can to the needy.” In the EA perspective, you’re morally broken if you don’t abandon your dreams and go to the job that does the most money or do service work. I wouldn’t want to live a miserable life if I knew I was making a random person one’s better.  This single existence I was blessed with should be mine to enjoy and as long as I’m not directly inflicting harm on others by the way I live I don’t see a problem with it.

I enjoyed reading your reflection, Nate. I like how your reaction to this reading involves articulating your views on social responsibility and/or how to live a full life. Your annotations are off to a good start. Continue to work on expanding the things you notice. I also want to encourage you to finish a short About Me page–and don’t forget to post a link to your finished blogs on the class website!
